Ombudsman Pressures Zaldy Co To Face Probe And Submit Testimony

MANILA — The Office of the Ombudsman has called on former Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Zaldy Co to finally appear before investigators and formally submit his testimony, emphasizing that the proper process—not public videos or social media posts—is the only path toward credible justice.
In a public statement released on November 15, the Ombudsman underscored that all witnesses in serious investigations must undergo the same rigorous procedures. This includes appearing before the office, providing sworn statements, and allowing their claims to be verified. According to the agency, this process may be deliberate, but it ensures that investigations are grounded in facts rather than speculation.
The Ombudsman noted that despite being repeatedly invited to cooperate, Co has opted to air his claims online instead of presenting them directly to investigators. This, the office said, forces them to pause and scrutinize every public allegation he makes, just as they would with any witness.
The statement also highlighted that Co has long been encouraged to submit evidence properly and that any concerns about his safety can be addressed. The Ombudsman assured that protective measures are available for witnesses who fear retaliation.
The agency then issued a direct call for Co to return, file his testimony, and allow investigators to verify his claims through the same process followed by all other individuals involved in ongoing cases. According to the Ombudsman, the pursuit of justice begins with formal cooperation—not public noise or online disclosures.
