Ombudsman Suspends 12 Officials Over Mindoro Flood-Control Mess

The Office of the Ombudsman has ordered a six-month preventive suspension of 12 government officials linked to the allegedly anomalous flood-control project in Oriental Mindoro.
During the arraignment before the Sandiganbayan Fifth Division, Atty. Juanito Lim — counsel for DPWH Maintenance Division chief Juliet Calvo — informed the court that the Ombudsman had already issued the suspension order covering Calvo and 11 others.
“We have just received that they are being suspended for six months, an order from the Office of the Ombudsman,” Lim told the court.
Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano later confirmed the suspension, explaining that it stemmed from the administrative case filed alongside the criminal charges related to the Mindoro project.

The preventive suspension aims to ensure the officials cannot influence the ongoing investigation or tamper with any documents related to the allegedly irregular flood-control project, which reportedly failed to meet approved design and construction standards.
The Office of the Ombudsman is continuing its investigation to determine whether additional administrative or criminal charges will be pursued.
