The One Meralco Foundation (OMF), the social development arm of the Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco), wasted no time in extending help to residents of Masbate who were recently affected by Typhoon Opong (international name: Bualoi).
Families living along the coastal barangays of Suba and Cadulan in Dimasalang received relief packs filled with food to help them recover from the storm’s impact.
But OMF’s support didn’t stop there. In partnership with Alagang Kapatid Foundation, Inc., the group also distributed solar lamps to students—ensuring that learning continues even during power outages as restoration work continues across the province.
These solar lamps are part of the Department of Education’s EduKahon, a ready-to-deploy school recovery kit that includes hygiene essentials, writing tools, and notebooks for students in disaster-hit areas.
“Thank you, [One] Meralco Foundation, for the lamps for Masbate,” Education Secretary Sonny Angara said in a Facebook post, recognizing the group’s quick response.
Through its Light Up Pilipinas program, OMF has already provided solar lamps to over 8,000 families, fisherfolks, indigenous communities, forest rangers, soldiers, and underserved rural areas, allowing them to stay productive both at home and at work.
OMF President Jeffrey O. Tarayao said their mission goes beyond providing aid—it’s about restoring hope.
“We aim to bring not just physical light but also hope to Filipino families affected by disasters. The solar lamps and food packs we distribute serve as a symbol of our commitment to help communities recover amid adversity,” Tarayao said.
Working hand in hand with partner organizations and local governments, OMF continues to deliver timely relief and lasting impact—shining light on the Filipino spirit of resilience.
