The One Meralco Foundation (OMF) brought early Christmas cheer to thousands of Filipino families after energizing the homes of 1,766 low-income households through its Household Electrification Program (HEP).
The initiative, led by the Manuel V. Pangilinan–led Manila Electric Company (Meralco), covered communities in Manila, Quezon City, Pasig, Parañaque, and parts of Cavite, Rizal, and Laguna, providing families with safe, legal, and reliable access to electricity ahead of the holidays.
In Quezon City, Mayor Joy Belmonte highlighted the program’s impact on community welfare. “This is why the Meralco’s Household Electrification Program is so important to us. This is a big step forward not only for the families who will benefit, but for our broader vision of uplifting the quality of life here in Quezon City. By bringing light to homes that need it most, we are offering the chance to build a better life for all,” she said in Filipino.
Meralco Head of Customer Retail Services Charina P. Padua noted that families previously relying on unsafe connections can now enjoy legal electricity service. “These families, who once depended on unsafe connections—such as tapping into a neighbor’s line, using submeters, or having no access to electricity at all—now enjoy a safe, reliable, and legal power supply,” she said in Filipino.
OMF also energized 179 households in Manila and 168 homes in Pasig City, where Mayor Vico Sotto emphasized the importance of public safety. “At the heart of this initiative is promoting public safety. We all know that using jumpers or submeters is dangerous aside from the fact that submeters are also costly,” he said in Filipino.
Beyond Metro Manila, an additional 987 households were energized this year across several provinces. To date, OMF has provided electricity to over 84,000 low-income homes nationwide, supporting the government’s goal of full electrification by 2028.
