Caloocan City 2nd District Representative Mitch Cajayon has taken legal action against former congressman Egay Erice, filing complaints for violating the Safe Spaces Act and slander. The case stems from Erice’s alleged inappropriate remarks about her, which Cajayon says are degrading to women.
In her complaint, Cajayon is demanding P100 million in damages. She insists that Erice’s words went beyond political criticism and crossed into offensive territory.
Cajayon: “Nakakabastos sa kababaihan”
Speaking to reporters, Cajayon explained that she, along with female barangay captains from her district, decided to pursue the case after Erice’s statements.
According to Cajayon, Erice accused her of doing nothing in Congress except handing out aid, while also making inappropriate remarks about her actions and appearance.
Erice: “Wala akong sinabing bastos”
For his part, Erice denies making any vulgar comments. He insists that he was merely describing Cajayon’s public appearances and actions.
He argues that his statements were not slanderous but merely an observation of how Cajayon presents herself. He even challenged her to a debate, questioning her legislative performance.
With both sides standing firm, this legal battle is shaping up to be a heated showdown. Will this case set a precedent for political speech, or will it be dismissed as mere campaign rhetoric?
