With New Year’s Eve just days away, the Philippine National Police (PNP) is going all out to make sure celebrations are safe, peaceful, and injury-free — and that includes cracking down hard on illegal firecrackers.

As of December 28, authorities have already confiscated 79,953 pieces of illegal firecrackers worth about P1,224,909 from markets, roadside stalls, and checkpoints nationwide. The move is part of a wider effort to prevent fires, injuries, and accidents as Filipinos welcome 2026.

PNP Acting Chief PLTGEN Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the police want families to feel secure while celebrating.

“As we approach New Year’s Eve, our focus is to keep communities safe so families can celebrate with peace of mind. Gusto naming maramdaman ng publiko na may nagbabantay at handang tumulong.”

To keep things orderly, the PNP has deployed 56,785 personnel across the country — from busy streets and terminals to malls, coastal areas, and neighborhoods. Police Assistance Desks are fully operational so people can easily ask for help, report concerns, or get quick information.

Local governments have also set up 765 firecracker zones and 741 community fireworks display areas, all supervised to ensure celebrations remain safe and controlled.

Beyond firecracker enforcement, checkpoint operations and patrols have also been strengthened. Around 11,129 personnel are manning motorist assistance hubs, reminding travelers to drive safely, avoid risky behavior, and follow traffic rules.

These efforts, Nartatez said, are part of the PNP’s push to be more responsive and visible in communities — especially during high-activity holidays.

“Kung magiging maingat ang bawat isa at susunod sa batas, mas magiging ligtas at masaya ang pagsalubong natin sa Bagong Taon.”

As the country heads into 2026, the PNP says it remains committed to modernizing operations, boosting community engagement, and ensuring that policing is efficient, trustworthy, and truly felt by the public — aligned with the call for a “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas.”
