PAGASA Issues Weather Advisory No. 9: LPA And Southwest Monsoon To Bring Heavy Rains In Southern Luzon

The state weather bureau PAGASA released Weather Advisory No. 9 at 11 a.m. today, September 1, warning of heavy rains over parts of Southern Luzon brought about by a low pressure area and the southwest monsoon.
Based on the outlook, Quezon and Camarines Norte are expected to experience significant rainfall from today until tomorrow noon, September 2, with amounts reaching between 50 and 100 millimeters. Occidental Mindoro and Palawan will also see moderate to heavy rains within the same period due to the southwest monsoon. From tomorrow noon until Wednesday noon, September 3, rains will continue over Occidental Mindoro.
PAGASA noted that rainfall totals could be higher in mountainous and elevated areas. In some locations, the effects may be intensified by the substantial rainfall that has already occurred in recent days.
The public, along with disaster risk reduction and management offices, is advised to remain alert and take precautionary measures to protect lives and property. PAGASA’s regional offices may issue localized Heavy Rainfall Warnings, Rainfall or Thunderstorm Advisories, and other severe weather information as needed.
The next Weather Advisory is scheduled for release at 5 p.m. today unless there are significant changes in weather conditions.
PAGASA also clarified the difference between its weather issuances. A Heavy Rainfall Warning provides forecasts for the next three hours and applies up to the municipal level, making it more precise since it uses Doppler radar to track real-time rainfall intensity. A Weather Advisory, meanwhile, covers a 24-hour period and is issued only at the provincial level. It gives a broader outlook on potential disturbances but does not carry the same short-term accuracy as Heavy Rainfall Warnings, and therefore should not be used as a basis for class suspensions or similar decisions.
