The state weather bureau has issued Weather Advisory No. 1, warning of heavy rains over parts of Northern and Central Luzon because of a low pressure area (LPA).

According to PAGASA, rainfall of 50 to 100 millimeters is expected from today until noon tomorrow, September 17, over Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, and Aurora. By tomorrow noon until Thursday noon, September 18, the heavy rains are forecast to shift toward Batanes, Cagayan, and Apayao.

The agency cautioned that rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas, with impacts possibly worsened by previous days of significant rainfall.

Local disaster risk reduction and management offices are urged to take necessary precautions to safeguard communities. PAGASA’s regional divisions may also release Heavy Rainfall Warnings, Thunderstorm Advisories, or other severe weather bulletins depending on local conditions.

The weather bureau clarified the difference between a Weather Advisory and a Heavy Rainfall Warning. A Weather Advisory covers a 24-hour period at the provincial level, giving a broad outlook on potential weather impacts. In contrast, a Heavy Rainfall Warning is short-term, issued for the next three hours, and applies up to the municipal level, making it more precise for immediate flood monitoring.
