Rep. Paolo “Pulong” Duterte did not mince words after the controversial ruling against his father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, calling it “a gross and disgraceful miscarriage of justice.”
In a passionate social media post, the younger Duterte denounced what he described as political persecution, saying his 80-year-old father—long out of power—has been unfairly targeted since stepping down from office.
“It is not law — it is political theater,” Paolo said, accusing those behind the case of turning justice into a stage play.
He insisted that the former president is not a flight risk, emphasizing that his father is “much loved in his own country” and would never abandon the Philippines.
Paolo also made strong accusations against foreign actors, claiming that the CIA had a hand in what he called his father’s “kidnapping.” He warned, “To all kidnappers of my father, I will make sure you will pay for this crime you have committed.”
Despite the anger and frustration, the Davao congressman vowed to face the battle legally.
“We’ll appeal. We’ll fight this by the book. And by the grace of the Almighty, my father will go home to his beloved Philippines,” he said.
The post has since stirred a wave of reaction online, with many Filipinos expressing both outrage and support. Paolo ended his statement by thanking those who continue to stand by their family: “Maraming salamat sa suportang walang sawang dumating.”
