'Pause The EDSA Rebuild First' - PBBM Wants Faster, Smarter Solutions For The Public
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. is hitting the brakes—for now—on the much-anticipated EDSA rebuild. But don't get it wrong—this isn’t about abandoning the plan. Instead, it’s about rethinking it smarter and faster.
In a recent directive, PBBM told key agencies like the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the Department of Transportation (DOTr), and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to go back to the drawing board and explore how modern technology can bring down the construction time to just six months.
Why the sudden pause? Because the President heard the public loud and clear. Two years of roadwork, congestion, and wasted time just won't cut it—especially with the school year about to start and daily commuters already struggling with the usual gridlock.
PBBM is pushing for a whole-of-government approach to find ways to speed things up without making life harder for millions of Filipinos who rely on EDSA every single day. “It’s time to use modern solutions,” he emphasized, aiming to minimize disruptions and maximize efficiency.
The DOTr has already committed to working closely with other agencies to follow through on the President’s orders. Their shared goal? To ease the burden on motorists and commuters and make sure that any rebuild project is done in the quickest and least painful way possible.
So for now, it's "pause muna" on the rebuild—but with a clear message: the government is prioritizing the people’s convenience and looking for ways to make progress without causing chaos. Let’s hope tech and teamwork can make that happen.
