Following the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck Cebu and neighboring areas on the evening of September 30, with its epicenter located about 19 kilometers northeast of Bogo City, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. issued a swift and comprehensive message detailing the government's action plan.

The President expressed his condolences to the families who lost loved ones and offered prayers for the safety of the injured and all those affected by the tremor.

His message went beyond sympathy, providing a detailed breakdown of the immediate government response in the affected areas. He confirmed that Cabinet Secretaries were already on the ground to provide aid and assess the damage from the main shock and aftershocks.

Key agencies were assigned specific roles for a coordinated effort:
The Department of Public Works and Highways DPWH is ensuring the safety of roads and bridges. The Department of Energy DOE is actively working to restore the electricity supply. The Department of Health DOH has sent additional personnel to hospitals. The Department of Social Welfare and Development DSWD is delivering food and other necessary relief.

In terms of security and emergency operations, the Bureau of Fire Protection BFP is assisting in search and rescue operations, while the Philippine National Police PNP is maintaining order and supporting rescue efforts. The coordination of all agencies is being spearheaded by the Office of Civil Defense OCD and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council NDRRMC to ensure a rapid and orderly response.

The President urged everyone to remain alert and heed the advisories from their local government. He concluded by stressing the need for collective action to support the affected communities and facilitate their rebuilding.

Vice President Sara Duterte Extends Aid and Sympathy

The Office of the Vice President also expressed its deepest sympathies to all residents in Cebu and Leyte severely affected by the 6.9 magnitude earthquake.

The OVP offered prayers for the deceased, the recovery of the injured, and the swift rehabilitation of the devastated communities.

To ensure direct assistance, the OVP announced it would deliver aid through its regional offices, specifically the OVP–Cebu, Bohol, and Siquijor Satellite Office, the OVP–Eastern Visayas Satellite Office, and the OVP–Panay and Negros Islands Satellite Office.

The Vice President's office concluded its message with a prayer that the affected individuals may find strength, resilience in their faith, and hope as they face this challenge.
