PBBM Slams Faulty Flood Control Projects In Calumpit

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has exposed alleged failures in the implementation of flood control projects in Calumpit, Bulacan, overseen by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)–Bulacan 1st District Engineering Office. These projects, carried out by contractors such as St. Timothy Construction Corporation and Wawao Builders, were worth millions of pesos but have reportedly failed to serve the people effectively.
The President stressed that contractors and officials proved to be responsible for defective projects should be held accountable and blacklisted. He also urged the public to report such irregularities through the ‘Sumbong sa Pangulo’ website so they can be addressed promptly.
One of the complaints that reached the President came from a Calumpit resident who personally wrote to detail the alleged substandard construction of a dike in their area. According to the letter, the steel used was thin and weak, the amount of cement and gravel was insufficient, and the backfilling was poorly done. The resident also claimed that water lilies clogging the waterways were left unremoved, further worsening the flooding problem.
As a result, floodwaters reportedly take two to four months to subside, damaging homes and destroying crops across the barangay. The resident appealed for immediate repairs and a more reliable flood control system to prevent further suffering in the community.
According to President Marcos, this is a clear example of projects prioritizing profit over public safety. He stressed the need to stop such practices and ensure that every peso of public funds is spent on quality work that truly benefits the people.
