The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) paid tribute today to the crew of BRP Suluan (MRRV-4406) for their bravery during a recent mission in Bajo de Masinloc, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to protecting the country’s maritime interests.

In a ceremony held at Pier 15, Port Area, Manila, PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil L. Gavan personally led the awarding, praising the vessel’s 43-member crew for their dedication and resilience in the face of maritime challenges.

The BRP Suluan was deployed on August 10, 2025, to conduct maritime patrols in the waters near Bajo de Masinloc, in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to secure the West Philippine Sea and safeguard Filipino fishermen operating in the area.

Admiral Gavan lauded the crew’s steadfast commitment to their mission, describing them as “the most durable point man in keeping the peace at sea.” He urged them to remain calm, professional, and determined, regardless of the circumstances they encounter.

The PCG also acknowledged the West Philippine Sea Group for its crucial role in information operations and coordination throughout the mission.

Onboard the BRP Suluan during the patrol were not only the ship’s crew but also members of the Coast Guard Medical Service, Maritime Surveillance Team, Coast Guard Special Operations Force, the “Angels of the Sea” from the Coast Guard Weapons, Communications, Electronics, and Information System Command, media representatives from GMA Network, and personnel from the Coast Guard Public Affairs Service.

The recognition highlights the PCG’s ongoing efforts to protect the nation’s territorial waters, ensure maritime security, and support the welfare of Filipino fisherfolk amid continuing challenges in the West Philippine Sea.
