In a significant breakthrough in the country’s ongoing war against illegal drugs, the Northern Luzon Naval Command (NLNC) of the Philippine Navy, in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), intercepted approximately 1.5 tons of suspected shabu off the coast of Zambales early Friday morning.

According to an initial statement from the Philippine Navy, the seized narcotics have an estimated street value of PHP10 billion, making this one of the largest anti-drug operations in the organization’s history.

“The PN, through the NLNC, apprehended 1.5 tons of methamphetamine hydrochloride or ‘shabu’ with an estimated street value of 10 billion pesos off the coast of Zambales at around 1:30 a.m., June 20, 2025. The case build-up and subsequent successful apprehension was a joint operation between NLNC and the PDEA,” the statement read.

The intercepted drugs are currently being transported to Naval Operating Base – Subic, where they will undergo documentation and be formally turned over to the proper authorities for further investigation and legal proceedings.

While full details of the operation have yet to be released, the Navy emphasized the significance of the seizure, describing it as a milestone in its ongoing support of the national government’s anti-drug campaign.

“This is one of the largest illegal drug apprehensions in the history of the Philippine Navy in support of the National Government’s campaign against prohibited substances. Other details to follow,” the Navy said.

Authorities have not yet disclosed information on possible suspects or the origin of the narcotics, but investigations are ongoing.

The successful operation underscores the continued vigilance of Philippine maritime forces and law enforcement agencies in curbing the entry and distribution of illegal drugs in the country.
