MANILA, Philippines - The local stock market closed the first day of the week with a slight dip, as the Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi) ended trading on September 29, 2025, just below the key 6,000-point psychological level.
The bellwether index lost 29.52 points, or 0.49 percent, to settle at 5,997.60. The broader All Shares index followed suit, declining by 0.23 percent.
Mixed Sector Performance
While the main index finished in the red, activity across sectors was mixed. The Mining & Oil index was the clear outlier, soaring by an impressive 5.32 percent, followed by the Industrial sector, which gained 0.90 percent.
However, these gains were not enough to offset the drop in other major indices. The Services sector saw the steepest decline, falling by 1.58 percent, with Financials also retreating significantly by 1.23 percent.
Market Activity & Foreign Flows
Total market value turnover was moderate at PHP 4.7 billion. Declining stocks slightly outnumbered advancing ones, with 106 issues losing ground against 100 advancers, while 58 stocks remained unchanged.
A key factor weighing on the market was the sustained net foreign selling, which amounted to PHP 405.93 million. This indicates that more foreign investors sold Philippine shares (Php 2.80 billion) than bought them (Php 2.39 billion), suggesting continued cautious sentiment from overseas investors.
