Traffic came to a complete halt in Alcala, Cagayan on October 6, 2025, after the Piggatan Bridge collapsed, making it impassable to all vehicles.

According to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Alcala, the bridge gave way while several trailer trucks were crossing. Authorities are still investigating the incident and verifying if there were any injuries.

Rescue personnel from the Task Force Lingkod Cagayan – Quick Response Team (TFLC-QRT) Amulung Station immediately responded to assist motorists affected by the collapse. Cecile Domingo of TFLC-QRT Amulung said rescuers are on standby to ensure public safety, and warning signs have been placed near the area to prevent further accidents.

DPWH Statement:
“The Secretary has dispatched a team to assess the collapsed Piggatan Bridge (K525+831) in Alcala, Cagayan. Preliminary findings show that three loaded trucks, each around 50 tons, were on the bridge—well above its 18-ton capacity, which likely caused the collapse. We advise the public to avoid the area and use alternate routes. Further updates will be provided as the assessment proceeds.”

Motorists are urged to use official alternate routes while authorities continue assessment and clearing operations at the site.
