PNP Ready To Secure Traslacion 2026
MANILA PIO FILE
The Philippine National Police says it’s all systems go for the Traslacion 2026, as millions of Black Nazarene devotees are expected to flock to Manila on January 9.
According to the PNP, a total of 18,212 uniformed personnel will be deployed to make sure the annual procession remains safe, orderly, and peaceful. Of that number, 12,268 will come from the NCRPO, with additional support from Police Regional Offices 3 and 4A, specialized police units, and other government agencies.
Security teams will be spread across three key areas: the Quirino Grandstand where the procession begins, the entire route of the Traslacion, and Quiapo Church — the final stop of the revered image.
Acting PNP Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the preparations are not just about crowd control, but about respecting the faith of devotees as well.
He explained that the Traslacion is “a deep expression of faith,” and reminded police to stay alert, calm, and humane while doing their jobs.
Part of the tighter security plan includes declaring no-fly zones and using signal jammers — measures aimed at preventing potential threats that may be coordinated through mobile devices. The PNP stressed these are purely preventive steps meant to protect the public.
A liquor ban will also be implemented across the City of Manila on January 9, in coordination with local authorities.
The stakes are high. During Traslacion 2025, the procession lasted nearly 21 hours and drew an estimated 8.1 million devotees — a reminder of just how massive the event can be and why careful planning is needed.
Despite the challenge, the PNP says it is ready — as long as everyone cooperates. Devotees are encouraged to follow safety reminders, stay vigilant, and look out for one another throughout the procession.
The PNP added that these preparations align with its push for faster, honest, and people-centered service under its “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas” thrust.
