Powering Progress: Meralco Energizes New ASEANA Substation To Support Southern Metro Manila's Economic Hubs

The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) is stepping up its efforts to meet the rising energy demands of Metro Manila’s fast-growing business districts. Recently, the company energized its new ASEANA 115 kV–34.5 kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Substation
in Parañaque City — a critical investment aimed at ensuring a more stable and reliable power supply for ASEANA City and nearby developments.
This smart substation, located at the heart of one of southern Metro Manila’s most dynamic economic hubs, underscores Meralco’s commitment to building a smarter, more resilient, and future-ready grid.
“With the energization of ASEANA Substation, we continue to deliver on our commitment to invest heavily in infrastructure that ensures power availability, especially in expanding economic hubs,” said Froilan J. Savet, Meralco First Vice President and Head of Networks. “This project plays a key role in improving system reliability and serving the dynamic power requirements of our customers.”
Strengthening the Grid for a Growing City
The ASEANA substation is designed to support the power needs of thriving commercial and business establishments, including ASEANA 3, Ayala Malls Manila Bay, Seda Manila Bay, Hop Inn Hotel, and several corporate and residential developments.
At the core of the project are advanced technologies that enhance operational efficiency and reliability. Meralco installed an 83-megavolt-ampere power transformer, indoor 115-kV and 34.5-kV GIS switchgears, a 14.4 MVAr capacitor bank, and a 1.2-ohm neutral reactor, housed in a dedicated GIS building with state-of-the-art protection and control systems.
The substation also eases the load on the existing PAGCOR-1 transformer banks and improves switching flexibility during contingencies — ensuring continuous power supply even in the event of disruptions.

Being a smart substation equipped with advanced network automation, the ASEANA GIS Substation is projected to reduce system losses by over 373,000 kilowatt-hours, translating to customer savings.
