The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) and the National Transmission Corporation (TransCo) are joining forces to build a stronger and more skilled workforce for the country's power industry. The two energy giants recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to formalize their partnership, with the goal of enhancing the technical expertise of power sector professionals.
The new agreement will allow the Meralco Power Academy (MPA), Meralco's energy education unit, and TransCo to collaborate on designing and implementing training programs. These initiatives, which will support Continuing Professional Development (CPD), include short courses, capability development programs, and talent pipeline initiatives to help professionals across the power sector sharpen their skills.
TransCo President Fortunato Leynes praised the partnership as a significant step for the industry, highlighting Meralco and TransCo's commitment to supporting the sector. He also thanked the Meralco Power Academy and acknowledged his own Human Resource Management and Development Division for their continuous efforts in strengthening employee capabilities.
Meralco Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Ronnie L. Aperocho, who also serves as MPA President, echoed this sentiment. He noted that the partnership elevates the existing collaboration between the two companies by formalizing their shared goal of advancing technical expertise and fostering innovation.
"This partnership blends TransCo’s unique national mission with MPA’s specialized role in training and development—a synergy that can make a tangible impact on energy reliability, resiliency, and human capital development,” Aperocho stated.
The collaboration will also facilitate the structured exchange of information on key areas like power distribution, helping both organizations navigate the evolving energy landscape. This strategic partnership aims to ensure the country’s power grid remains stable and resilient for years to come.
