On the second day of his State Visit to India, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. was formally welcomed with full ceremonial honors at the historic Rashtrapati Bhavan by Indian President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The reception, marked by a military parade and official honors in the forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhavan—the President’s official residence on Raisina Hill in New Delhi—is a gesture reserved only for visiting heads of state, symbolizing the importance India places on its relations with the Philippines.
Addressing members of the media from both countries after the ceremony, President Marcos highlighted the significance of his visit in the context of a shifting regional and global landscape.
“I think it is a reaffirmation of the partnership that we are strengthening,” the President said, noting how regional terminology has evolved over the years. “Where we used to refer to the Asia-Pacific region, we now refer to the Indo-Pacific region, which is, I think, a correct evolution of that understanding because of the global nature of all the politics and of all the trade and all of the economy.”
President Marcos emphasized that while the two nations have long shared friendly ties, the current era presents new avenues for deeper cooperation.
“Certainly, we are here to build upon what we already have,” he said, “but also to explore the many opportunities that have arisen in the past two years because of the new technologies and the changing state of the global economy and the geopolitics around us.”
His State Visit, the first by a Philippine president to India in over a decade, seeks to expand cooperation across several key sectors—including defense, digital infrastructure, healthcare, and labor—while also advancing mutual goals of regional peace, resilience, and sustainable economic growth in the Indo-Pacific region.
As both countries navigate a dynamic global environment, President Marcos’ visit signals a renewed momentum in Philippine-India relations—grounded in shared democratic values, strategic interests, and a forward-looking approach to regional development.
