Speaking at the Philippines–India Business Forum in Bengaluru, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. emphasized the growing need for stronger economic collaboration between the two countries. He pointed to areas of high potential—semiconductors, healthcare, clean energy, and digital services—as key sectors where Philippine and Indian industries could forge mutually beneficial partnerships.
President Marcos framed the Philippines as a ready and willing partner for deeper cooperation, noting ongoing reforms designed to make the country a more attractive destination for foreign investment. These include streamlining regulations, enhancing infrastructure, and fostering innovation to support a more competitive business environment.
One of the most significant developments shared during the forum was the Philippines’ intention to initiate formal discussions on a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) with India. Such an agreement could pave the way for expanded trade flows, lower tariffs on selected goods, and greater market access—ultimately strengthening the economic foundations of both nations.
With India being one of Asia’s largest and fastest-growing economies, and the Philippines positioning itself as a rising player in the region, the forum served as a timely platform to reinforce shared interests and explore new areas of cooperation. President Marcos’ message was clear: the Philippines is open for business, and the partnership with India is one the country is eager to grow.
