President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. visited San Mateo, Rizal on Thursday to personally check on families affected by widespread flooding triggered by Severe Tropical Storm Crising (international name Wipha) and the intensified southwest monsoon.

At the Maly Elementary School—now serving as a temporary evacuation center—President Marcos met with some of the 546 displaced families currently sheltering there. In total, 3,899 families, or 14,390 individuals, in San Mateo have been impacted by days of relentless rain that submerged parts of the town.

During his visit, the President led the distribution of family food packs provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). He assured residents of continued government support as the community grapples with the effects of the storm and ongoing rains. San Mateo has been placed under a state of calamity.

Marcos emphasized the importance of a coordinated national response, directing all concerned agencies to work together in ensuring the safety and welfare of affected communities. This includes the immediate delivery of relief supplies, deployment of medical teams, and restoration of essential services such as water, electricity, and transportation—especially in hard-hit areas.

The President is also set to visit another evacuation center in the town before heading to Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City. There, he will preside over a situation briefing with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) to assess the combined impact of the storm and monsoon, and to strengthen government efforts moving forward.

President Marcos reiterated the administration's commitment to stand by affected families and ensure swift and effective recovery operations.
