The Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi) managed to close slightly higher on Tuesday, October 21, finishing at 6,093.53, up 9.46 points or 0.16%, as investors cautiously picked up select stocks amid a quiet trading session.
Market activity remained modest with a total value turnover of ₱5.2 billion. Of the listed shares, 84 advanced, 127 declined, while 47 were unchanged — showing a mixed sentiment as traders awaited fresh catalysts.
Foreign investors turned in as net buyers, with ₱2.69 billion in foreign buying versus ₱2.45 billion in foreign selling, resulting in a net inflow of ₱231.58 million.
Market watchers noted that the slight uptick reflected bargain-hunting after recent losses, as investors positioned ahead of key corporate earnings and economic data releases later this week.
Despite the modest gain, analysts say the index continues to face resistance at the 6,100 level. Many expect trading to remain range-bound in the near term while investors assess inflation and interest rate trends.
The PSEi’s upward close marks a cautious optimism in the local market — a sign that while uncertainty lingers, some investors are starting to see opportunities in undervalued stocks.
