Rain or Shine caught fire from deep and never cooled off, torching Magnolia with a 101–92 victory to lock up a Top 4 finish and a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals of the PBA Philippine Cup.
Playing at the Khalifa City Sports Stadium in Bahrain on Tuesday morning (Manila time), the Elasto Painters put on a shooting clinic, drilling 17 of 32 three-pointers for a scorching 53 percent from long range. Every big moment seemed to end with the ball splashing through the net.
Jhonard Clarito led the charge with 21 points, calmly knocking down his shots and going a perfect 2-of-2 from beyond the arc. He got plenty of help from Caelan Tiongson, who hit 4-of-7 threes, and Gian Mamuyac, who went 2-of-3, with both players finishing with 14 points each.
The win marked Rain or Shine’s third straight victory, pushing the Elasto Painters to an 8–2 record and back into the solo lead. More importantly, it guaranteed them a twice-to-beat edge in the playoffs—a huge boost heading into the knockout stage.
Magnolia, meanwhile, faced a tough night that went beyond the scoreboard. In the first half of the first-ever PBA game held in Bahrain, Hotshots guards Paul Lee and Jerom Lastimosa went down with injuries just minutes apart. Neither returned to the game, dealing a heavy blow to Magnolia’s rhythm and firepower.
Rain or Shine took full advantage, stretching its lead to 74–58 in the third quarter, highlighted by veteran Fil-Am Stanley Pringle, who scored all nine of his points from three-point range.
To their credit, the Hotshots refused to fold. They mounted a late push in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to 91–96, but Mamuyac quickly shut the door with five straight points, ending Magnolia’s comeback hopes.
Mark Barroca led Magnolia with 14 points, followed by Peter Alfaro with 13 and Juan Gomez de Liano with 12. Big man Zavier Lucero was limited to just nine points, well below his team-best average of 17.4.
With momentum, confidence, and their playoff advantage secured, Rain or Shine is clearly peaking at the right time—and if the threes keep falling, the Elasto Painters could be very tough to stop.
