Recto: Gov't To Step Up Efforts To Keep Prices Affordable, Support Farmers

Finance Secretary Ralph G. Recto assured the public that the government will intensify its efforts to keep the prices of essential goods affordable while boosting support for farmers to ensure a stable food supply, especially as the country recovers from recent calamities.
This comes after a slight uptick in inflation to 1.7% in September, from 1.5% in August, driven by a series of typhoons and heavy rains that disrupted food production and distribution across several regions.
Despite the increase, inflation remains below the government’s 2% to 4% target range, indicating that overall price pressures remain manageable.
According to the Department of Finance, inflation rates for key food items such as rice, meat, fish, milk, and fruits continued to ease, alongside lower inflation in health and personal care services — a positive sign that essential goods and services remain within reach for Filipino consumers.
Recto said the government will continue to strengthen measures that stabilize prices and reinforce agricultural productivity to help Filipino families cope with rising costs while supporting local farmers.
