Finance Secretary Ralph G. Recto has called for stronger cooperation between regulators to make the country’s financial system more inclusive and resilient.

Recto recently met with Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Francis Lim and Insurance Commissioner Reynaldo Regalado to tackle strategies aimed at boosting the capital markets, expanding financial access for Filipinos, and cracking down on scams that continue to plague investors and policyholders.

The high-level meeting highlighted the government’s push to strengthen investor protection while promoting innovation and transparency in the country’s financial landscape. Both the SEC and the Insurance Commission are expected to tighten oversight and develop new safeguards to protect consumers from fraudulent schemes and unregulated investment activities.

“Finance Secretary Ralph G. Recto convened Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Francis Lim and Insurance Commissioner Reynaldo Regalado to discuss strategies to boost the country’s capital markets and advance financial inclusion,” the Department of Finance said in a statement.

Also in attendance were Undersecretary and Chief of Staff Maria Luwalhati Dorotan Tiuseco, Undersecretary Charlito Mendoza, and senior officials from both the SEC and Insurance Commission.

The discussion underscored Recto’s broader agenda to energize the country’s financial sector, ensuring that growth in the capital markets also benefits ordinary Filipinos — not just large corporations and institutional investors.
