Refocusing On What Matters: The President Orders Suspension Of SONA Preparations Amid Flooding Crisis

The Office of the Executive Secretary issued a firm statement today, relaying the President’s disappointment over reports that government personnel have been installing State of the Nation Address (SONA) materials in public areas — even as severe flooding continues to affect many communities.

The President expressed dismay that, while thousands of Filipinos are grappling with rising waters and widespread disruption, some government teams appear to be prioritizing ceremonial preparations over urgent relief work.

In response, the President has ordered an immediate suspension of all SONA-related preparations. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), along with all other concerned agencies, has been directed to redirect all resources and personnel toward flood response and relief operations.

“The President’s directive is clear: government efforts must focus exclusively on the safety and welfare of the Filipino people, especially during times of crisis,” the Executive Secretary stated. “All government agencies are expected to act in line with this priority.”

The statement serves as a reminder that public service demands flexibility and responsiveness, especially when lives and livelihoods are at stake. At this critical time, the government calls on all its offices and personnel to work together to support affected communities and ensure that help reaches those who need it most.
