Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla has made a rare appeal to Filipinos overseas: help the government locate and arrest fugitive former congressman Zaldy Co.

Speaking at a Malacañang press briefing, Remulla urged Filipinos around the world to keep an eye out and report any sighting of Co—fast.

“Nakikiusap kami sa lahat ng mga Pilipino sa buong mundo na kung makita nila si Zaldy Co, kung puwede nilang picturan at i-post kaagad sa internet para may idea tayo kung nasaan siya,” he said.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. earlier asked Co to return home, assuring the public that the investigation into the massive flood control corruption scandal will not end in disappointment.

Co is at the center of what authorities describe as the largest ghost flood control project scam involving the DPWH and alleged budget insertions in Congress. According to Remulla, Co is believed to be hiding in Portugal and possibly carrying two passports, making the pursuit more complicated.

Remulla said multiple agencies are now moving together to bring Co back to the country. The DILG, DFA, DOJ, and the Ombudsman are coordinating in what he calls a “whole-of-government” effort to ensure a “satisfying outcome” in Co’s repatriation.

He added that final details are being worked out by the Department of Foreign Affairs.

As for others involved in the ghost project controversy, Remulla said arrests will follow the Ombudsman’s protocols. Once warrants are issued, authorities will act.

“Capturing them is not the issue, they’re in the Philippines. Mahahanap ‘yan. It is the wheels of justice turning,” he said.

Remulla also hinted that “bigger fish” in the corruption scandal will soon be caught, signaling that the investigation is far from over.
