In a formal statement released today, Ako Bicol Party-list Representative Zaldy Co addressed the accusations made against him during a Senate hearing. Co vehemently denied the claims, calling them baseless and irresponsible.
The lawmaker's statement comes amidst a Senate inquiry into alleged anomalies related to flood control projects and budget insertions in the 2025 General Appropriations Act (GAA). Co stated that the claims were unsubstantiated, hearsay, and politically motivated to mislead the public.
Co emphasized that the 2025 GAA went through the proper legislative process, being certified and approved by both the House of Representatives and the Senate before being signed by the President. He also pointed out that the President had even vetoed some provisions and withheld funds for projects, highlighting that the budget was not solely his decision.
He declined to provide further public comment on the matter, explaining that the validity of the 2025 GAA is currently subject to a case before the Supreme Court and the Office of the Ombudsman. Co stated that he would reserve his right to comment "if and when, required by the courts."
