The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) has reported that the death toll from the combined effects of the enhanced southwest monsoon and successive tropical cyclones — Crising, Dante, and Emong — has now reached 25.

Of these, three fatalities have been officially confirmed — one each in Central Luzon, Northern Mindanao, and the Caraga region. The remaining 22 deaths are still undergoing verification. These include nine in the National Capital Region, three each in Calabarzon, Negros Island Region, and Western Visayas; two more in Northern Mindanao, and one each in Mimaropa and the Davao region.

The storms and torrential monsoon rains have left a broad swath of the country struggling. According to NDRRMC data, more than one million families — roughly 3.85 million individuals — across 4,255 barangays in 17 regions have been affected.

Of these, 47,522 families are currently staying in 1,226 evacuation centers, while nearly 28,000 more are temporarily sheltered with relatives or friends. Damage to housing has also been significant: 2,433 homes were partially damaged and 486 were declared totally destroyed.

Beyond the human toll, the economic impact is sobering. Agricultural losses are currently pegged at PHP366.9 million, while infrastructure damage has ballooned to nearly PHP4 billion.

As recovery efforts continue, the NDRRMC and other government agencies are working to deliver aid to affected communities, assess further risks, and support displaced families. With the rainy season ongoing, authorities are also emphasizing the need for preparedness and early evacuation as weather systems continue to threaten vulnerable regions.
