Roger Pogoy is finding his rhythm at just the right time—and so are the TNT Tropang Giga.
The veteran guard is on a roll, delivering big plays on both ends of the floor as TNT makes its strong push for a coveted PBA Philippine Cup grand slam. Most recently, Pogoy added another significant milestone to his already impressive career, joining the PBA’s 5,000-point club.
He reached the mark in dramatic fashion, hitting the milestone late in the first quarter of TNT’s narrow 80-79 victory over Magnolia—a win that secured the team a semifinals berth for the third consecutive conference in Season 49. Pogoy led the way with 18 points, seven rebounds, and five assists in that tightly contested matchup.
Recognition came swiftly. During halftime of TNT’s semifinal opener against Rain or Shine, the PBA honored Pogoy with a Career Achievement Award, presented by Commissioner Willie Marcial. Also in attendance were league Chairman Ricky Vargas and Rain or Shine governor Atty. Mamerto Mondragon.
According to PBA statistician Fidel Mangonon III, Pogoy becomes the 101st member of the league’s 5,000-point club and the 96th local player to do so. Among active players, he’s just the 15th to reach the mark—and only the seventh in TNT franchise history, joining a prestigious list that includes Glenn Capacio, Vic Pablo, Jimmy Alapag, Ranidel de Ocampo, Jason Castro, and Kelly Williams.
But the milestones didn’t stop there. Just hours after receiving his plaque, the 33-year-old Far Eastern University alum erupted for 28 points to power TNT past Rain or Shine, 98-91, in Game 1 of their semifinal series at the Mall of Asia Arena.
With Pogoy in top form, TNT appears locked in on its championship mission—and the veteran guard is proving to be one of its most valuable weapons.
