Romualdez To House Prosecutors: Get Ready, Escudero's Impeachment Notice Is In
FILE
Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez is making things official. On Thursday, he confirmed receiving a formal heads-up from Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero about the looming impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte—and he’s wasting no time in moving the process forward.

In a letter dated May 22, 2025, addressed to Escudero, Romualdez acknowledged the Senate President’s earlier message and said he’ll be forwarding it to the House panel of prosecutors. “This will be transmitted to the Panel of House Prosecutors,” Romualdez wrote—signaling that the ball is now officially rolling toward the Senate.

The Office of the Senate President received Romualdez’s reply that same day, timestamped at exactly 12:28 p.m.

Just to backtrack a bit: Escudero had written to the House on May 19, notifying them that the Senate is prepped and ready to take on the next phase of the impeachment proceedings. Specifically, the Senate wants the House prosecution panel to show up at 4 p.m. on June 2 to read out all seven charges against VP Sara Duterte during an open session.

And that’s not all.

Escudero also reminded Romualdez that the Senate will officially sit as an impeachment court the following day—June 3 at 9 a.m. sharp. That’s when they’ll start issuing summons and other relevant orders to get the trial moving.

This exchange of letters between the two leaders essentially marks a new chapter in this political drama, with the Senate now stepping in as the official venue for what’s shaping up to be a historic trial.
