San Simon Mayor Brought To DOJ Following NBI Arrest Over Alleged Extortion

San Simon, Pampanga Mayor Abundio “JP” Punsalan Jr. has faced inquest proceedings at the Department of Justice (DOJ), following his arrest in connection with an alleged extortion case.
The mayor was apprehended during an entrapment operation led by the National Bureau of Investigation’s Intelligence Service on Wednesday. The operation took place at a restaurant in Clark, Pampanga, where authorities say the transaction related to the alleged extortion occurred.
Shortly after his arrest, Punsalan was placed under the custody of the NBI. By Thursday, he was escorted to the DOJ for the formal inquest process, which will determine whether charges can be immediately filed or if further investigation is needed.
Details about the exact nature and amount involved in the alleged extortion have yet to be disclosed publicly, but the NBI confirmed that the operation was based on verified intelligence and a formal complaint.
