The Senate is holding its ground after contractor Pacifico “Curlee” Discaya filed a petition for a Writ of Habeas Corpus, challenging his detention over alleged contempt.

During a hearing at the Regional Trial Court (RTC) of Pasay City, Branch 298, presided over by Hon. Melvin Cydrick Bughao, the court ordered that Discaya remain under the custody of the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms.

Discaya’s lawyers questioned the legality of his continued detention, while the Senate was represented by its Legal Counsel. The case is set to resume on Monday at 9:00 a.m., after which it will be referred to the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) for subsequent hearings.

The Senate emphasized that it remains firm on its position, insisting that the contempt order against Discaya was issued within its constitutional authority.
