Senator Villar Fights Back; Welcomes Investigation To Clear His Name

Senator Mark Villar is pushing back against recent allegations, stressing that he has nothing to hide and is ready to cooperate fully with any inquiry to prove it.
"I welcome and fully support any investigation into these issues," the Senator stated. "I have nothing to hide and believe firmly in accountability and due process."
Villar was quick to point to his time as Secretary of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), asserting that his focus was solely on deep reforms and rebuilding the public's trust. He described his record as one of "unprecedented transparency and accountability," which he pledged to defend "vigorously against falsehoods."
Crucially, the Senator addressed the core of the claims, denying any financial ties to DPWH projects. "I have no direct or indirect ownership or controlling interest in any company participating in DPWH projects," he clarified. He added that the official record confirms that none of his relatives secured contracts during his tenure.
Villar Cites Reform Record
To back up his claims of transparency, Villar highlighted several key reforms implemented under his watch. DPWH data was fully digitized and made publicly accessible in partnership with various institutions. To empower citizens, community groups were established in remote areas, and a 24/7 complaints hotline was launched. Furthermore, the administration pioneered the use of drone technology and issued open invitations for civil society organizations to conduct on-site project inspections.
Focus on Future Transparency
Villar affirmed his full support for the current investigation by the Independent Commission for Infrastructure.
He also announced a new legislative initiative to institutionalize transparency. "We will be filing a bill to mandate universal drone monitoring for all major government projects, ensuring that transparency is permanently embedded in our infrastructure program," he announced. The move aims to cement these practices for all future administrations.
