Sia Faces Disqualification Case Over Comments On Single Moms-Comelec Steps In
Well, things just got a bit more serious for Pasig congressional candidate Christian “Ian” Sia. The Commission on Elections (Comelec), through its Task Force SAFE (Safeguarding Against Fear and Exclusion in Elections), has filed a disqualification case against him—and it’s all because of some controversial remarks he made during the campaign trail.
Yep, you read that right. The case was filed motu proprio, which basically means Comelec took the initiative to act on its own, without waiting for someone to file a complaint first. That’s how seriously they took Sia’s comments, especially the ones involving single mothers.
While details of his exact statements haven’t been officially disclosed in the petition, sources say it was enough to raise red flags on whether Sia’s words violated election guidelines on discrimination and inclusivity.
The petition was officially filed on Wednesday, April 16, and now it’s up to the poll body to decide whether Sia still has a shot at that congressional seat—or if his campaign just hit a major roadblock.
