It’s game time in Laguna as the Philippines’ top beach volleyball pair, Sisi Rondina and Bernadeth Pons, return to the sand—ready to dig deep, spike hard, and lead the charge at the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour (BPT) Futures Nuvali starting Thursday in Santa Rosa City.
Rondina and Pons, who bagged gold in the 2022 BPT Futures Subic Bay, are looking to sharpen their game in preparation for the SEA Games in Thailand this December, where they hope to level up from their previous bronze finish.
But it’s not just them carrying the Philippine flag. A total of four women’s pairs and four men’s tandems will be representing the country in a tournament that features some serious international heat—teams from 19 countries including the US, Germany, Italy, Canada, and Japan are all set to battle it out.
Joining Rondina and Pons are rising stars like UST’s Khylem Progella and Sofia Pagara, who are getting a taste of high-level international action. Then there’s Sunnie Kalani Villapando, who made waves in the US NCAA scene with Stanford and USC, reuniting with Jen Gaviola after their stint at the Songkhla Futures in Thailand.
“This isn’t just about playing—we’re mentally preparing for the SEA Games,” Villapando shared. “It’s about mindset, training, and competing with purpose.”
Also repping the local scene are UAAP champ Honey Grace Cordero and NU standout Kat Epa, while veterans Alexa Polidario and Dij Rodriguez round out the women’s cast.
On the men’s side, all eyes are on Jude Garcia and Jaron Requinton, silver medalists in the BPT Futures series and SEA Games bronze winners. They’re joined by tandems Francisco-Tolentino and Rosales-Iraya, each bringing their own fire to the sand.
And while Team PH is coming in strong, they’ll be facing tough competition. Israel’s Eylon Elazar and Kevin Cuzmiciov, ranked No. 88 in the world, are fresh off a dominant run in Thailand and will be hunting for back-to-back titles.
The stage is set, the sand is ready, and the stakes are high. As beach volleyball heats up in Nuvali, fans can expect a thrilling showcase of grit, talent, and the spirit of competition—with the homegrown heroes right at the center of it all.
