Soaring Together Again: Rare Philippine Eagle Pair Spotted In Bukidnon After Nearly 20 Years
High above the lush forests of Bukidnon, two majestic figures appeared against the sky — a pair of wild, untagged Philippine Eagles, seen together for the first time in nearly two decades. The sighting took place within the ancestral domain of the Bukidnon Higaonon Tribal Association (BUHITA), a protected home to many of the country’s most endangered species.

What made the moment even more special was the way the eagles were found — locked in a breathtaking display known as mutual soaring. Side by side, they glided effortlessly, tracing circles in the air. This graceful aerial dance isn’t just for show; it’s a sign of lifelong partnership, a way to mark their territory, and a hint that a new nesting season may soon be underway.

The rediscovery was made possible through the sharp eyes and steady dedication of BUHITA trail masters, forest guards, Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF) biologists and monitoring staff, along with the CENRO Valencia team. Their vigilance ensures that such rare encounters are not only recorded, but protected.

For the Philippine Eagle — already critically endangered — such sightings are more than just heartwarming news. They’re proof that, despite the threats to their survival, these incredible raptors are still finding ways to thrive in the wild. And while the eagles can soar on their own, keeping their skies safe will always be our shared responsibility.
