Speaker of the House Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez took centerstage at the Harvard World Model United Nations (WorldMUN) 2025 in Taguig, delivering a powerful message: The Marcos administration is all about diplomacy, but when it comes to defending the Philippines’ sovereignty, there’s no backing down.

Speaking to the bright young minds at the international conference, Romualdez painted a picture of the Philippines as a nation built on resilience, unity, and a deep sense of community. "We are a nation that has weathered storms—both literal and political," he said. "And yet, through it all, we stand, we rebuild, we move forward together."

That same mindset, he explained, is what guides the country’s foreign policy under President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. The approach: strengthen alliances, build economic ties, and push for peaceful diplomacy while standing firm on what’s rightfully ours.

Peace, Partnerships, and Sovereignty

Romualdez highlighted how the administration has been working on international partnerships, securing trade agreements, and boosting investments from key regions like Asia, the U.S., Europe, and the Middle East. But make no mistake—when it comes to territorial integrity, the country is unwavering.

“We have been resolute in defending our territorial integrity and upholding the rule of law in the West Philippine Sea,” he emphasized. Congress has been backing these efforts, passing resolutions reaffirming the country’s sovereign rights and supporting the modernization of the armed forces and coast guard.

A Call to the Next Generation of Leaders

Addressing the future diplomats and policymakers in the room, Romualdez didn’t hold back. “The world is complex and, in some ways, more fragile than ever,” he said, pointing to ongoing global conflicts, democratic struggles, and the climate crisis. His advice? Don’t wait for the "right time" to make a difference—step up now.

He left the young leaders with thought-provoking questions:
• Are you speaking to win an argument, or to solve a problem?
• Are you leading for recognition, or to make a real difference?
• Are you here to just play the role of a diplomat, or to truly become one?

With the Philippines standing at a crossroads of diplomacy and sovereignty, Romualdez made it clear: the country is choosing both peace and strength. And for the next generation of leaders, his challenge was simple—will they rise to the occasion?
