The youth are making their voices heard once again. On Friday, October 17, students from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) joined fellow scholars from Mapúa University, Universidad de Manila, and Colegio de San Juan de Letran in a massive rally dubbed “Walkout na Para sa Bayan.”

Gathering first at the PLM façade, students—led by the Supreme Student Council, college councils, and groups such as ALAB Pamantasan, Anakbayan PLM, STAND PLM, Gabriela Youth PLM, and PLM Propaganda—marched out of campus to call for student rights, transparency, and accountability amid issues of corruption.

Carrying placards and chanting slogans, the students joined the One Intramuros convergence at Liwasang Bonifacio, where various Intramuros-based schools united for one cause: to demand that “lahat ng sangkot, dapat managot!”

The protest forms part of the National Day of Action Against Corruption, where youth groups from different universities across Metro Manila took to the streets to urge the government to address corruption and prioritize public welfare.

At the University of the Philippines, a “snake rally” snaked through Benitez Hall, followed by a program in front of Vinzons Hall before participants marched to Quezon Hall to join forces with other colleges heading to Mendiola—symbolizing the collective stand of students nationwide.

“Ang laban ng kabataan ay laban ng bayan,” one student leader declared during the rally. “We walk out not just from our classrooms, but from silence.”

From Intramuros to Mendiola, the message of the youth was clear: education, transparency, and justice are non-negotiable.
