Surprise LPG Price Rollback: Expected Hike Flips To P1 Per Kg Decrease In October

Consumers can breathe a sigh of relief as the anticipated price increase for LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) for October has flipped into a welcome rollback.

Industry analysts had initially forecasted a price hike, with the LPG world market price holding stable in the $540's/MT (per metric ton) level throughout the month. However, at the last minute, Saudi Aramco announced a lower contract price, dropping by $19/MT. This translates to a domestic price reduction of approximately ₱1 per kilogram (₱1/kg).

The sudden shift is attributed to an announcement from OPEC+ (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies) that they would increase petroleum production, bolstering the supply in the market. This news caused oil prices to fall immediately, directly impacting the final LPG contract price.

According to Arnel Ty, president of the LPG Marketers' Association (LPGMA), this news came as a surprise. "Yesterday, when I was asked by news stations, the contract price was $30 up," Ty noted in a recent address. "But today, the final price... to reflect in our domestic price by October, dropped by $19 per metric ton."

The result is good news for consumers, as the expected increase is now officially a rollback, providing a little relief to household budgets as the month begins.
