Great news for Philippine volleyball fans! The country's incredible love for the sport has been officially rewarded again. The FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship 2029 is heading to the Philippines!

The major announcement was made by FIVB President Fabio Azevedo and legendary volleyball star Leila Barros right before the Final of the Men's World Championship 2025, which the Philippines has been brilliantly hosting. The current Men's Championship has been an absolute success, showcasing the nation’s top-notch organization, warm hospitality, and the famously passionate Filipino crowd.

Why the Philippines?

This is a historic first for the Philippines, as it will be their debut in hosting the prestigious Women’s World Championship. The decision comes on the heels of the successful 2025 Men's Championship.

FIVB President Fabio Azevedo highlighted that hosting in the Philippines is a huge chance to show the positive impact volleyball has globally. "Volleyball is unique in its accessibility, inclusivity and its ability to unite people from all backgrounds," Azevedo stated, expressing confidence that the 2029 event will carry the same profound spirit seen in the 2025 Men's Championship. This move is part of the mission to grow the global volleyball movement to an astonishing 1.6 billion people.

Volleyball World CEO Ugo Valensi chimed in, noting that the Philippines offers the "perfect stage to inspire the next generation" and connect communities. He added that the 2029 Championships will be a true celebration of everything that makes the sport unique.

Building a Lasting Legacy

The hosting rights aren't just for a tournament; it's a long-term investment.

FIVB Executive Vice President Ramon Suzara, who is also the Asian Volleyball Confederation President, enthusiastically confirmed the nation's readiness. He acknowledged the lessons learned from the 2025 event and promised to deliver an "even better" Championship in 2029. Suzara believes this will build a lasting legacy for athletes, fans, and the nation.

Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Patrick “Pató” Gregorio called the hosting a "great gift for volleyball-loving Filipinos." He sees the partnership as a transformative program for athletes and a major boost for sports tourism. Gregorio stressed that the country will form a consortium with the private sector to lead and sustain this project, creating a "historic blueprint for Philippine sports development overall."

The Women’s World Championship is one of the biggest international volleyball events, featuring 32 of the world’s best teams battling it out across 64 matches over 17 days. Mark your calendars—the world’s eyes will be on the Philippines again in 2029!
