The Sister Act: Aby Marano Beams As Mylene Paat Finally Returns To The Court

For Aby Maraño, the captain of Chery Tiggo, the upcoming PVL Reinforced Conference means more than just a new season; it means the return of her "soul sister" and longtime teammate, Mylene Paat.

Paat, a former Premier Volleyball League (PVL) MVP, is finally stepping back onto the court after a lengthy, private battle with an undisclosed injury. Her recovery sidelined her for the last three conferences—the All-Filipino, the On Tour, and the Invitational. But now, her comeback is official.

For Maraño, who has shared countless moments on the court with Paat, this return is deeply personal.

"I mentioned it already—I can't take it back, I mentioned she’s coming back. But that's not my story to tell," Maraño said with a smile during the 2025 PVL Reinforced Conference press launch, hinting at the difficult journey her friend endured.

A Journey of Pride

Maraño knows firsthand the quiet patience, hard work, and determination Paat poured into her rehabilitation. Now, the captain is simply brimming with pride for her friend.

"I'm just saying this because I'm so proud of her, that her journey to recovery is finally bearing fruit," Maraño shared. "I would say it feels so good to see her there again. It's not just because she's my best friend, but it also feels so good because of her presence. Mylene's presence inside the court is just different."

The partnership between the two Crossovers was unfortunately cut short after just two conferences when Paat was sidelined. Now, her return is a timely blessing for Chery Tiggo, who had a strong showing in the preseason tournament and the Invitational earlier this year.

More Than Points

Paat's return brings more than just offense and firepower; for Maraño, it brings stability, confidence, and leadership.

"Our dynamic is good because we're both veterans on the team," Maraño explained. "So the leadership is there, and now I have truly doubled the help with leadership because we have her, we have Ara [Galang], we have Mylene."

The PVL Reinforced Conference is set to be one of the toughest yet, with powerful imports and the return of several Alas Pilipinas players to their respective clubs. But for Maraño, having Paat back in uniform gives Chery Tiggo something priceless—a renewed chemistry and belief.

"I'm excited to see the chemistry we have now on the team go against other teams that are more challenging because, of course, there are foreign players, and then some Alas players are back to play with their respective teams," she said. "So definitely, this conference is going to be a very competitive and challenging conference for sure."
