Tragic NAIA Crash: LTO Orders Driver And Owner To Explain Themselves

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) is now stepping in after the heartbreaking accident at NAIA Terminal 1 on Sunday, May 4, 2025, where two people — including a child — tragically lost their lives.
In a firm move, the LTO issued a Show Cause Order to both the driver and registered owner of the black Ford Everest involved in the incident, directing them to appear before the agency on May 8 and explain why they shouldn’t be charged with reckless driving and have the driver’s license revoked or suspended.
According to the LTO’s initial findings, the driver had just dropped off a passenger and was about to leave the departure curbside when a sedan reportedly crossed his path. In a moment of panic, he allegedly stepped on the gas instead of the brakes — resulting in a fatal crash that injured three people and killed two.
Given the gravity of the situation, LTO Chief Asec. Vigor Mendoza II announced a 90-day preventive suspension of the driver’s license, and the black Ford Everest has been placed under alarm — meaning no transactions involving the vehicle can proceed while the case is under investigation.
“This is deeply saddening. One of the victims was the child of an OFW — it hits close to home for many of us,” Asec. Mendoza said. He emphasized that under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to hold reckless motorists accountable, the LTO will thoroughly investigate the incident.
DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon personally went to the crash site and said the matter is now in the hands of the police, while the LTO continues its administrative probe.
If the driver and registered owner fail to appear or respond to the Show Cause Order, the LTO warned it will proceed with the case based on available evidence.
