As of 4:00 PM today, Tropical Depression Fabian was located 245 km west of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, moving west-northwest at 15 km/h. It currently has maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near its center and gusts reaching 55 km/h. Fabian remains relatively weak and is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) later tonight.
No Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals are in effect. The system is not expected to directly affect the country’s weather within the forecast period. However, moderate seas—1.0 to 2.0 meters high—will persist along the coastal waters of Northern Luzon. Mariners, especially those in small or ill-equipped vessels, are advised to take extra caution or postpone sea travel in these conditions.
Fabian is forecast to weaken into a remnant low as it leaves PAR. Authorities continue to urge residents in hazard-prone areas to remain alert and follow instructions from local officials.
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm PODUL—To Be Locally Named “Gorio”—Strengthens in the Pacific
Far to the east, Tropical Storm PODUL (to be locally named Gorio once it enters PAR) is under close monitoring. At 4:00 PM, its center was located approximately 2,410 km east of Extreme Northern Luzon. Moving northwest at 15 km/h, PODUL packs maximum sustained winds of 75 km/h and gusts of up to 90 km/h.
Although Gorio is unlikely to directly impact the Philippines in the next five days, it is forecast to gradually intensify—possibly reaching severe tropical storm category by tomorrow afternoon and potentially becoming a typhoon by Sunday. On its projected track, the system may enter the PAR between late Sunday and early Monday.
Meteorologists caution that there remains significant uncertainty in its forecast beyond Monday, as even slight shifts in direction could change both its path and strength. PAGASA advises the public to stay updated through official bulletins and to be ready should conditions change.
