The tropical depression named #PaoloPH has slightly intensified as it continues its movement across the Philippine Sea, according to the latest bulletin released at 5:00 PM today, October 1, 2025.

The center of Tropical Depression Paolo was last located approximately 665 kilometers East of Virac, Catanduanes. It is currently moving west-northwestward at a speed of 25 km/h. The system holds maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 70 km/h. Strong winds extend outwards up to 250 km from the center.

Areas Under Threat

Only the northern portion of Catanduanes, specifically the municipalities of Pandan, Bagamanoc, Panganiban, and Viga, is currently under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1. This warning signals the public that strong winds, ranging from 39 to 61 km/h, are expected within 36 hours and pose a minimal to minor threat to life and property.

Escalating Hazards and Forecast

Paolo is forecast to continue intensifying and may reach Severe Tropical Storm category by Friday early morning. Forecasters are not ruling out further intensification into a Typhoon before landfall. Based on current projections, the highest wind signal likely to be hoisted is TCWS No. 3, though the worst-case scenario suggests a possibility of TCWS No. 4.

The storm is expected to move generally westward to west-northwestward and may make landfall over Isabela or northern Aurora on Friday, October 3, morning or afternoon. It is then expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Saturday morning. The public is reminded that heavy rainfall, severe winds, and storm surge may be experienced even outside the direct landfall point.

A significant concern is the moderate to high risk of life-threatening storm surge, with peak heights potentially reaching 1.0 to 2.0 meters within 48 hours over the low-lying or exposed coastal areas of Cagayan, Isabela, and Aurora. Additionally, a Gale Warning may be issued over the seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon as early as tomorrow afternoon due to anticipated rough to very rough sea conditions.

The public and disaster risk reduction and management offices are strongly advised to take all necessary measures to protect life and property. Residents in areas identified as highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards should follow all evacuation and safety instructions from local officials. For localized heavy rainfall and other severe weather information, please monitor products issued by your local PAGASA Regional Services Division.
