In a post on his Truth Social account, President Donald J. Trump announced what he described as a major step forward in efforts to bring an end to the ongoing conflict in Gaza. According to Trump, his representatives held a “long and productive” meeting with Israeli officials, culminating in an agreement on key terms for a proposed 60-day ceasefire.

Trump emphasized that Israel has agreed to the “necessary conditions” to move forward with a temporary cessation of hostilities. During this two-month window, U.S. envoys — working alongside partners from Egypt and Qatar — aim to help facilitate a longer-term resolution to the war.

“The Qataris and Egyptians, who have worked very hard to help bring Peace, will deliver this final proposal,” Trump stated, highlighting the crucial role both countries have played as mediators in the negotiation process.

While the president framed the news as a hopeful development, his message to Hamas was unambiguous. “I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas takes this Deal,” he wrote, warning that any refusal could lead to a deterioration of conditions on the ground. “It will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE.”

Trump’s statement signals his continued involvement in high-level diplomacy and positions him as an active voice in foreign policy discussions, even as the situation in Gaza remains fluid and complex. Whether Hamas will accept the deal — and whether the ceasefire will hold — remains to be seen, but for now, a potential path toward de-escalation has been placed on the table.
