Typhoon Gorio (international name: Podul) continues to maintain its strength while moving westward over the Philippine Sea, according to PAGASA’s 11:00 a.m. bulletin on August 12, 2025.

At 10:00 a.m., the center of Gorio was located about 560 kilometers east of Itbayat, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 150 kilometers per hour. It is moving west at 25 kilometers per hour, with strong to typhoon-force winds extending outward up to 400 kilometers from the center.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 remains raised over Batanes, where residents may experience minimal to minor impacts from strong winds within the next 36 hours. Winds could be slightly stronger in coastal and upland areas exposed to the prevailing wind direction. PAGASA said that, under the current forecast scenario, Batanes may be placed under Signal No. 2, depending on changes in the typhoon’s track and wind radius. If Gorio shifts southward, additional areas could be placed under wind signals.

The enhanced Southwest Monsoon is expected to bring strong to gale-force gusts today over the Babuyan Islands and the northern portion of mainland Cagayan. By tomorrow, these gusty conditions may also be felt in the northern part of Ilocos Norte.

Coastal waters in northern Luzon will be hazardous over the next 24 hours. Very rough seas reaching up to 5.5 meters are expected off Batanes, making sea travel extremely risky for all vessels. Rough seas of up to 3.5 meters are likely around the northern and eastern seaboards of the Babuyan Islands, while moderate seas are forecast for nearby coastal areas. PAGASA strongly advises mariners, especially those operating small boats, to avoid venturing out under these conditions.

Gorio is projected to move west-northwestward and may make landfall over the eastern coast of Taiwan tomorrow afternoon before exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility in the evening. It could slightly intensify before landfall but is expected to weaken afterward.

Authorities urge residents, particularly those in high-risk areas, to prepare and heed evacuation advisories if necessary. Localized rainfall warnings and other weather updates will be issued by PAGASA’s regional offices as conditions develop.
