MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Uwan is finally losing steam as it drifts away from northern Luzon, but don’t let your guard down just yet — the storm is still stirring up rough seas, strong winds, and the threat of storm surges in several areas.
As of 4 PM, PAGASA said Uwan was last spotted 175 kilometers west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur, packing maximum sustained winds of 120 km/h and gusts of up to 150 km/h while crawling northwest at 10 km/h.
Wind signals remain up in many parts of Luzon — with Signal No. 2 over Ilocos Region, Cagayan, Abra, Apayao, Benguet, and parts of Pangasinan and Zambales. Metro Manila and nearby provinces are under Signal No. 1, meaning strong winds and scattered rain showers are still expected.
PAGASA also warned of possible storm surges up to three meters in coastal areas like Ilocos, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, and Batangas. “Residents in coastal and flood-prone areas are advised to remain alert and heed evacuation orders from local officials,” the agency reminded.
Fisherfolk are urged to stay in port, as waves may reach up to seven meters in northern and western Luzon.
The good news? Uwan is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility tonight or early tomorrow as it continues to weaken over the waters near Taiwan.
Still, authorities are keeping a close eye on lingering rains and strong winds. Stay updated and stay safe — this typhoon may be on its way out, but it’s not done making waves just yet.
