Vatican Confirms: Pope Francis Passed Away After Stroke And Heart Failure
On Monday evening, the Vatican officially shared the heartbreaking news about what led to the death of Pope Francis. According to a report released by the Holy See Press Office, the cause was a stroke that led to a coma and, ultimately, irreversible heart and circulatory failure.
The details came from Dr. Andrea Arcangeli, Director of the Directorate of Health and Hygiene of the Vatican City State, who issued the official certification. In his statement, Dr. Arcangeli confirmed that an electrocardiographic thanatography — a medical test used to verify death — was used to confirm the Pope’s passing.
The report also highlighted Pope Francis’ existing health challenges before his death. He had a history of acute respiratory failure due to multimicrobial bilateral pneumonia, multiple bronchiectases (a chronic lung condition), high blood pressure, and Type II diabetes — all of which may have made him even more vulnerable.
“I hereby declare,” Dr. Arcangeli wrote, “that the causes of death, to the best of my knowledge and judgment, are as stated above.”
As the world mourns the loss of a beloved spiritual leader, many are reflecting on Pope Francis’ lasting impact on the Church and the countless lives he touched during his papacy.
